J.R Muller

With over four decades of diverse professional experience, I bring a unique blend of human-centered care, corporate leadership, and entrepreneurial innovation to everything I do.

My career began with 15 years as a Recreational Therapist, where I focused on improving quality of life for individuals through adaptive programs, inclusion initiatives, and innovative therapeutic approaches. This foundational work shaped my ability to listen deeply, solve complex human challenges, and build programs that truly make a difference.

I then spent 20 years in corporate leadership roles, including positions such as Chief Information Officer and technology strategist. During this time, I honed my expertise in IT infrastructure, organizational strategy, and executive-level decision-making. My work focused on aligning technology with business goals, leading teams through digital transformations, and ensuring operational excellence across multiple industries.

In 2010, I took my experience and vision into entrepreneurship, founding West Michigan Technology and Design Solutions (WMTDS). Now in its 14th year, WMTDS has grown into a trusted local partner for over 300 businesses, providing managed IT services, WordPress website design and hosting, digital marketing, and AI-driven solutions — all built and supported locally in West Michigan. As owner, I’ve combined my passion for service with strategic technology leadership to create a company that “Speaks Tech and Human,” bridging the gap between innovation and real-world business needs.

Community & Legacy

My connection to service began early through Indian Trails Camp, a place that has profoundly shaped both my family’s story and my own. My father was the first disabled camper to attend Indian Trails Camp — a groundbreaking moment that opened doors for countless children and adults with disabilities in West Michigan. Inspired by his journey, I spent five summers working at the camp, helping create inclusive recreational experiences and supporting campers as they built confidence, friendships, and independence.

Today, that connection continues through service. I provide IT support and host the organization’s website, IKUSLife.org, as a donated contribution to help further their mission. It’s a way to give back to a place that not only transformed my father’s life but also shaped my own understanding of purpose and community.

Beyond Indian Trails Camp, I proudly serve as a member of the Grand Rapids Rotary Club, where I contribute to local and international service initiatives. My story and work were recently featured in Rotary International’s magazine, highlighting the power of legacy, inclusion, and service through technology and community leadership.

Every Life Has a Purpose.

The foundation of my values and work ethic was shaped by the extraordinary life of my father, Robert S. Muller. Born with cerebral palsy in 1942, he faced immense challenges from the very beginning. At a time when children with disabilities were often institutionalized, my grandmother refused that path — instead, she fought for his right to live, learn, and thrive within the community.

Throughout his childhood, my father worked tirelessly to overcome physical barriers and social stigma. He navigated schools where inclusion was virtually unheard of, paving the way as one of the first students with a disability to be integrated into a regular school environment in Grand Rapids, Michigan. His determination carried him through to graduation from Aquinas College, setting the stage for a remarkable professional life.

Robert went on to become an executive at Steelcase, where he led by example and advocated for the rights of people with disabilities in the workplace. His leadership extended far beyond corporate walls — he was appointed as a member of the National Council on Disability, playing a role in shaping national policy and was present at the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in 1990.

His life’s work stands as a testament to perseverance, inclusion, and the power of one person to create lasting change. His legacy continues to inspire me every day — in my business, my community involvement, and my commitment to technology that serves people of all abilities.
